Whipped Body Lotion
A couple of days ago I posted a video on instagram where I showed how I was whipping up some body butter lotion and I had some people ask me for the ingredients so I thought why not make a post?!
So here it is 🙂
This recipe is so luxurious that every time I come out of the shower and apply this lotion, I feel like I’m at a spa. We all know that the winter months dry out or skin and I have tried almost every lotion available on the market but NOTHING HELPS…. Until now!
This lotion is absolute heaven! Not only is it chemical free, you also have full control over the quantities, smells, and ingredients.
It is very important to keep in mind that if you have nut allergies (or any allergies for that matter) to test out the different ingredients on a SMALL body part as you may develop an allergic reaction from ingredients such as shea butter which is a nut. This little bit of valuable information I learned the hard way when my brother’s girlfriend had an allergic reaction from a previous whipped body butter I had made.
This is not your traditional whipped body lotion as it contains not only various oils but also some beeswax. The beeswax helps keep the lotion more solid and spreadable just like a store-bought lotion. This also results in the lotion not being the traditional fluffy whip of just oil based butters/lotions.
So here’s what you will need:
- 2 tbs Pure Beeswax
- 1/4 cup Unrefined Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
- 1/8 cup Raw Organic Cacao Butter
- 1 tbs Vegetable Glycerine
- 1 tsp Vitamin E Oil
- 1 tbs Sweet Almond Oil
- Essential oils of choice – Not necessary as the Cacao Butter has a wonderful chocolate smell but you can always add vanilla as it compliments chocolate SO WELL! 🙂
This is a super easy and fun DIY that has you putting QUALITY ingredients on your LARGEST ORGAN! We have a tendency to keep in mind what we put in our bodies but we neglect what we put on our bodies. There are so many chemicals in so many of our creams…yuck!
Start by melting down the beeswax in a double boiler. I use my kitchenaid metal bowl as I will be whipping everything up directly in it. I place the bowl on top of a pot of hot water and allow all the beeswax to melt.
Once the beeswax has melted, place the shea butter, coconut oil and cacao butter and allow them to melt as well.
As soon as you see that everything is liquid (I use a popsicle stick to mix everything around), place the bowl in the fridge for an hour to allow the mixture to set.
After an hour, remove the bowl from the fridge, add the remaining ingredients and start whipping either with a hand mixer or a stand mixer for 10-12 minutes until the lotion is fluffy and light.
Transfer to a sealable glass jar and enjoy! This lotion should keep for a good amount of time and will not melt if kept in the bathroom (at least it doesn’t melt in mine!)
